Leading Through Overwhelm
By Trishna Monplaisir
A Leading Through Overwhelm is part of our Restoring You, Restoring Us series through The Giveback Campaign, an annual invitation to create even more places for black women to rest. We welcome guest contributor Trishna Monplaisir as she shares her reflections on gratitude.
Trishna, tell us about yourself: I am a NY native, mom of two girls, wife, Black woman who loves to build community. I am a licensed social worker and manage programs for a non-profit along with creating safe spaces and building communities for women through my business, The Release Program.
How are you finding gratitude while navigating a difficult season? In this season of life, I have come to accept that difficult times will inevitably come my way. Figuring out different ways to be present for my oldest daughter who struggles with anxiety along with assuring that I’m advocating for my youngest daughter’s academic needs has been hard.
What made this bit more challenging was the frequent decision making, strategic planning and organizing I personally needed to do when it came to my career. It is through the love and encouragement of my community and reading the words of Jesus, that I am able to find rest and strength to weather the storms of life.
How do you know you need to process your emotions when walking through a hard season? When I feel overwhelmed that emotion consumes my thoughts. I feel flustered and have persistent headaches. This is the point where I know I need to allow myself to fully experience and process my emotions.
What has been helpful in navigating life and leadership? What sustains me during these tough periods is the realization that nothing lasts forever. I find solace in the comforting words of Jesus and the support of my community. Their presence gives me hope, gratitude, and a sense of peace.
